Open Journal System JMS

Open Journal System is a free-licensed open-source Journal Management software developed by PKP (Acronym: Openjournalsystem). It has been used extensively in the US, Europe, Australia and Asia. If you belong to any of these categories, you should definitely use OJS:

* JMS – This is a Journal Management System, which is a collection of tools to create, update and manage your Journal. It allows you to publish articles or documents, send and receive mails, create and edit lists, and store information in your database. All this can be done from a single central location. JMS can manage all aspects of Journal creation including content, metadata, and publishing. This helps to streamline the process for the Journal publisher.

* OpenJournalSystem – This is another great JMS which is built on the latest open source code. It also has an active community and the developers are always looking for contributions from its users.

* JournalMiner – This is another free-licensed open-source JMS that is similar to OpenJournalSystem in many ways. It has its own blog, where the users can post comments and feedback. However, unlike OJSR, JMR uses a Java based framework instead of an XML based one.

* JournalMiner is also available for Windows, Linux, Unix, and MAC operating systems. * The Linux version of JMR is the “Koi” and the Mac version is the “Tuna”. * You can download OJSR for Linux and install it on a Linux server as well.

* An advanced feature of OJSR is the OpenJournalSite feature. This is a simple but powerful RSS/ Atom based interface for managing your online Journal. OJSS allows you to syndicate content directly from your website. You can also update your RSS feed using the “Add to Feedburner” button.

* The third and final feature of OJSR is the Directory of External Sources (DOES) feature. This enables you to add external resources, such as PDF files, audio files and video files to the website without the need to create separate blogs for them. The DOES can be easily edited and even exported to HTML. for easier syndication.

* Open JournalSystem is a JMS with the ability which is designed for publishing to a single feed. There are multiple feeds but it is quite limited in terms of number of feeds. * OpenJournalSite is a lightweight but powerful free-licensed open source JMS which has a built-in web-based search engine. * A custom built website can be set up with the help of the JournalMiner Community Edition.

* One drawback of the Open Journal System is the lack of support for JavaFX and other dynamic web technologies. * For more dynamic features, such as the ability to run scripts that can control automatic indexing of the feed, one may want to consider using OpenJournalSite.

* Another feature of the Open Journal System is the Directory of External Resources (DOER). This feature allows users to publish content that has been submitted by other users of the Journal or published to the DOER from other sources such as external RSS feeds or blogs. * A feed can be created or modified using a web-based browser by clicking on a link that is provided. * A feed can be exported to HTML using a browser or uploaded to a website using the DOER.
